White Night in Florence

What’s a vacation in Italy without at least one great all-nighter? If you happen to find yourself in Tuscany this month, be sure to get plenty of sleep the night of the 29th because April 30th Florence will enjoy its fourth all night extravaganza, “Notte Bianca” (White Night).

This year the theme of the event is “flight”. The wonder of flight will be expressed all over the historic center of the city through music, dance, performance art and light shows. And to make the festivities even more festive, shops, bars and restaurants will stay open ’til the wee hours. Special events for kids will be held from 7-10pm. Florence, for the grown-ups, will be alive with activity until dawn!

The Dalì Universe - from the 1st of February to the 25th of May.

At the Medici Riccardi Palace in Florence, it will be possible to admire many works of art by the world’s most famous surreal artist, Salvador Dalì.

Thanks to the exhibition “The Dalí Universe Florence”, Florence will host more than 100 works by the Catalan Master; if you have never been to Figueres or visited another museum where the artist’s works dominate, creating a different and surreal reality, this is definitely a unique opportunity to learn even the lesser known aspects of the great artist’s work.

In fact, Florence will host the still little known collections concerning the different aspects of the artist’s artistic production, such as bronze sculptures, surrealist furniture, objects made of glass and gold. Moreover, the unrecognized activity of Dalí as an illustrator is highlighted: many literary texts, both contemporary and classical ones, were revised from a surrealist perspective.

From Boldini to De Pisis - from the 19th of February to the 19th of May 2013

From Boldini to De Pisis Florence welcomes the masterpieces of Ferrara

These are the works of very high quality artists such as Giovanni Boldini, Gaetano Previati, Achille Funi, Carlo Carrà, Roberto Melli and Filippo de Pisis. In Florence, the idea was to divide this selection in two different venues: the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Pitti and Villa Bardini, following a path with a chronological order. What visitors will see at Villa Bardini: from Gaetano Turchi’s historical romanticism to the nineteenth-century paintings by Giovanni Boldini. At the Modern Art Gallery, instead, visitors will see Boldini’s twentieth-century contribution intertwined with Previati’s symbolist works and communicate with Filippo De Pisis’s intimate and existential painting.

Hosted at Villa Bardini, Boldini’s works are full of glamour; not too ideal, this is a connection with the Roberto Capucci’s collection of clothes, which are exhibited – in turn – right in this area.

The Springtime of the Renaissance - Palazzo Strozzi, 23 March-18 August 2013

The exhibition proposes to illustrate, in theme-based sections, the origin of what is still known today as the "miracle" of the Renaissance in Florence, doing so principally through masterpieces of sculpture, the branch of figurative art in which that new season first saw the light of day.
