Firenze card: welcome !

Florence has a special tourist card, which is called Firenze Card.

The  Firenze Card is valid for 72 hours and provides you the admission to more than 30 museums, located in Florence. It costs € 50,00; you can purchase it at some of the museums and at the tourist information offices:  piazza Stazione 4, via Cavour 1r (from Monday to Sunday) and online.

Purchasers of Firenze Card get into museums without waiting time - no queues! The card also enables you to use public transportation free of charge.Every card includes free access to museums and means of transportation to a second person if younger than 18 (EU citizens only).

Florence has its “Museo del Novecento”!

It’s been a long wait, but finally Florence has its Museo del Novecento, dedicated to the twentieth century!

It’s been a long wait because it’s been over 50 years, 50 years of projects and proposals, before the public could finally see a part of the collections of the City of Florence, granted by artists, collectors and institutions.

After the huge flood that covered Florence in 1966, leaving behind the loss of thousands of works of art, the art historian Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti took the initiative to assemble a committee to raise worldwide public awareness and to ask local and international artists to donate some of their works to replace the ones that had been destroyed. Over 200 artists replied to the appeal of “Artisti per Firenze”, as the initiative was named, and the City of Florence promised that their works would become part of a future international museum of contemporary art.

The new Florentine museum is devoted to the Italian art of the twentieth century and houses a collection of about 300 works, divided into 15 exhibition spaces and organized through a path that traces the twentieth century, with its chronological, thematic and interdisciplinary approach, through paintings, sculptures, videos, installations and documents, and with the support of multimedia stations, sound devices and video rooms.

Picasso and Spanish Modernity

From 20th September 2014 till 25th January 2015, Palazzo Strozzi hosts a unique art exhibition dedicated to the great master Pablo Picasso and many other 20th century artists.

The art exhibition Picasso and the Spanish Modernity groups about ninety works by Picasso and other modern artists such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Maria Blanchard.

From 20th September 2014 till 25 January 2015 a great selection of paintings, drawings and a film will be displayed in Palazzo Strozzi thanks to the cooperation with the Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.

The exhibitions boasts some of the greatest works of art of the 20th century, such as Woman's Head and The Painter and the Model by Pablo Picasso and Siruana, the Path by Miró.

The art exhibition will also show a series of drawings and preparatory paintings useful for Picasso to accomplish the famous Guernica.
